JAY — Registration deadline for the area Summer Recreation Program is this Friday, June 17.

Information about the program was sent home with each Regional School Unit No. 73 student. Applications are also available at the Jay and Livermore Falls Town Offices.

The six week program begins Monday, June 20 and ends Friday, July 29. It will be held at the former Livermore Falls High School which is now owned by Area Youth Sports.

Director Sally Boivin said the site is being rented this year. The program will be able to use the gym and several athletic fields. Those fields are ideal for nature walks and other outdoor activities.

Children entering first through eighth grade next fall are eligible to participate.

Breakfast will be served each weekday at 8:30 a.m. with the actual program starting at 9 a.m. Friday sessions end at noon. All other days end at 2 p.m.

Director Sally Boivin said breakfast and lunch will be provided free thanks to a grant obtained through the RSU 73 school lunch program.

The towns of Jay and Livermore Falls sponsor the summer rec program through their budgets. Families from those towns pay a program fee of $35 for the first child and $20 for all other children. Fees for Livermore are $65 for the first child and $35 for other family members. The fee is $110 for all children from other towns.

T-shirts may be purchased for $8 each, Boivin said.

Several field trips are planned throughout the summer. There are extra fees for those trips, but they kept as low as possible, Boivin said.

The children will go bowling two times at Meadow Lanes in Wilton and visit Narrow Gauge Cinema in Farmington twice. Trips to Tabor’s Mini Golf in Auburn and Dummer’s Beach in Weld are other traditional trips.

Fun Town/Splash Town in Saco will be another fun trip. New this year is a visit to Aero Air Trampoline in Lewiston.

The Summer Rec Program coordinates with the RSU 73 after school program to offer Science camp, Tie-Dye T-shirts and other fun activities. A summer reading program may also be included this year.

Boivin said area high school students serve as counsellors for the program.

“This is the best program around. It is so good for these kids,” Boivin said.
