HARRISON — Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival has announced the artists and programs for its upcoming 44th season. Performances take place at Deertrees Theatre.
New Music Director is renowned pianist Mihae Lee.
Concerts are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, July 12, 19, 26 and Aug. 2 and 9.
Individual tickets are $25, five-concert subscriptions are $100, concerts are free for ages 21 and younger. All tickets are for open seating and will be held at the front entrance box office. Tickets are available online at www.sebagomusicfestival.org/tickets.
July 12, “Gypsy Flair”: The festival will open the season with Haydn’s popular gypsy trio. Bartok’s Contrasts is a masterful work that features unique combinations of clarinet, violin and piano in gypsy rhythms and tunes. The Brahms Piano Quartet will perform as Gypsy Rondo ends the piece.
July 19, “All Things French”: This program will begin with Poulenc’s Flute Sonata followed by the Milhaud Suite with clarinet and the impressionistic trio by Gaubert with flute. The conclusion to this program will be Faure’s second piano quartet.
July 26, “Stringfest”: An early Romantic trio by Weber will feature a combination of flute, cello and piano. The Shostakovich Piano Trio will perform, followed by the eight string players who will perform the string octet written by 16-year-old master Felix Mendelssohn.
Aug. 2, “Schubert’s Trout”: The concert will begin with the Gran Duo by Bottesini. Then the mood will change quickly to Debussy’s “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun.” Turina’s piano trio will add another dimension to this evening’s musical journey that begins in Italy and ends in Germany with the Schubert “Trout” Quintet.
Aug. 9, “Windfest”: The season finale will feature wind instruments as the festival dedicates the concert to its co-founding music director, the late Judy Pence. Piano and strings join the winds highlighting the diverse and unique qualities of the festival. Works will range from Strauss to Nielsen, to Mozart and Dohnanyi.
