LIVERMORE FALLS — A local man is accused of running from police Sunday.
Officer Connor Willard ran a plate on a vehicle on Campground Road that he believed he had just witnessed speeding and it came back not belonging to the car to which it was attached, Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Monday.
Willard attempted to stop the vehicle driven by Steven Dakin, 20, of Livermore Falls, and the vehicle continued for a short distance and then stopped. Dakin jumped out of the car and ran, Steward said.
Jay police, a Maine State Police trooper and his K-9 partner assisted Willard.
The dog did a track, but it stopped and they could not find the suspect, Willard said.
Police received information that the driver was picked up by another vehicle. The trooper found Dakin at his aunt’s home on Fayette Road and took him back to the scene, Steward said.
Dakin was arrested on misdemeanor charges of failing to stop for an officer, attaching false plates and operating while license was suspended or revoked, Willard said.
Dakin was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
