PORTLAND (AP) — An energy company is seeking a new site for a liquefied petroleum gas depot in southern Maine after the state bought its leased distribution site in Portland and South Portland rejected the company’s plans.

The Portland Press Herald reported (http://bit.ly/28LL9GR ) NGL Energy Partners is continuing to look for a site to build a propane depot to grow a customer base of 50,000 homes and businesses in the area.

The company’s leased distribution site in Portland was bought by the state Department of Transportation to make way for the ongoing expansion of the International Marine Terminal.

The company withdrew plans to build a depot in South Portland after it struggled to gain approval from city officials and the community. Opponents have said it could pose a public safety threat.
