1955 – 2016

AUGUSTA — Gregory M. “Greg” Nadeau, 60, of Lewiston passed away unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, June 21, at Maine General Hospital shortly after arrival.

He was born in Rome, N.Y., June 29, 1955, one of two children born to Marcel and Margaret (Cullinan) Nadeau. Being a child of a military father, the family lived in several places during Greg’s grade school years, but they eventually settled in Lewiston in time for his high school years. He graduated from Lewiston High School with the Class of 1973 and remained a lifelong resident of this community.

In 1983, Greg married Susan Rogers and they had two children, Austin and Ericka. Susan predeceased him in 1998. Greg was a state employee, worked for the Department of Health and Human Services for more than 25 years and was currently employed as an analyst in the Program Integrity Department for DHHS at the time of his passing.

Greg was an avid golfer and constantly worked on perfecting his long and short games as he played in Thursday evening leagues at Foxridge Golf course for many years. During several of those same years, he also bowled many good games, throwing strikes and spares in Thursday night mens’ leagues at Sparetime Recreation Center. He was a longtime and loyal fan of the navy and gold, Notre Dame Football and even attended a game each season for the past 15 years with his very close friend K.C. Geiger. Greg served on the Auburn School Board for several years, was a board director for Auburn Housing Authority and volunteered for the Auburn Suburban Little League as an league officer and umpire for many seasons.

He was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, partner, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Greg leaves behind his two children, Austin Nadeau and wife, Shontea, of Alexandria, Va., and Ericka Nadeau of Lewiston; his 5-month old granddaughter, McKinley Susan of Alexandria, Va.; his partner of three years, Sylvia Schrock of Sabattus; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Thomas and Jacoby Bonin of Auburn; his best friend K.C. Geiger, also of Auburn; and his many friends, coworkers and extended family at DHHS.

Greg was predeceased by his wife, Susan; parents, Marcel and Margaret and his sister, Karin Taylor.
