OTISFIELD — Voters at town meeting Saturday approved a bond for $250,000 for the town’s portion of refurbishing Pleasant Lake Dam.
The dam project is in conjunction with the town of Casco, which approved its $250,000 portion on June 15.
The main question regarding the bond from residents was how long the refurbishing of the dam would last and whether it was a repair or a complete replacement.
Selectman Lenny Adler said the complete replacement was expected to last 100 years or more.
“If we don’t appropriate the money, the (Maine Department of Environmental Protection) can fine the two towns up to a $1,000 a day,” Adler said. “So within a year, we will pay $365,000 in fines, potentially, and we will still have to fix the dam.”
In other action, voters:
* Elected Adler selectmen/assessor/ overseer of the poor for a three-year term;
* Elected Hal Ferguson chairmen of the Board of Selectmen/assessor/overseer of the poor for the ensuing year;
* Elected Richard Bean to the position of road commissioner for the ensuing year;
* Elected Diana Olsen to serve as the town’s SAD 17 director for a three-year term;
* Elected David McVety by a vote of 40-37 over Quentin Henderson to fill a second seat on the SAD 17 board of directors.
All warrant articles were approved.
