LIVERMORE FALLS — A 1999 silver Volvo was taken from a Main Street residence Monday afternoon by someone known to its owner, Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said.

The owner apparently saw someone taking the vehicle around 4 p.m. and tried to stop the person. They believed that the Volvo would be returned, so they didn’t call police, Steward said. When the vehicle had not been returned by Tuesday morning, the owner called before 8 a.m. to report that it had been stolen, the chief said.

The keys had been left in the vehicle because the owner could not get them out. The car was being worked on to get an inspection sticker, Steward said.

The case is under investigation, he said.
