EFFINGHAM, NH — Police in New Hampshire are searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run that killed a Maine man.

Police say it happened in Effingham around 7:30 p.m. Thursday on Route 25, near the intersection of Route 153.

Officers say it appears a car stopped suddenly, and a motorcycle hit the back of it.

Police say the car drove away.

Police say the car is a white four-door sedan with New York registration plates, orange plate with black numbers.

The driver of the white sedan was identified as a black female, medium build with glasses and a ponytail.

The motorcyclist, 21-year-old Jonathan Kauffman of Bridgton, was flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland where he later died.

Police say there may have been an altercation between the two vehicles before the crash.
