BOOTHBAY HARBOR, Maine (AP) — A Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued a pair of kayakers after they capsized in Boothbay Harbor.

A woman called the Coast Guard on Thursday afternoon to say she and another kayaker had capsized but reached White Island. A rescue boat responded to the call, but it was unable to land on the island because of shallow waters.

The Portland Press Herald reports a helicopter crew based out of Cape Cod arrived on the island a little after 5 p.m. on Thursday. The helicopter hoisted the kayakers off the island a few minutes later and flew them to an airport in Brunswick, Maine.

The kayakers were not injured.
