James Jamison of Waterbury, Connecticut, appeared in a Portland court on Tuesday. His state-appointed attorney asked for $25,000 bail, saying Jamison holds a full-time job in Connecticut.

Police say 33-year-old Jamison was arrested Friday after he rammed a Maine Drug Enforcement Agency van with four agents inside and took off, injuring two of them. Authorities say he crashed shortly after and fled on foot.

Authorities say more than 2 pounds of heroin was seized, some from the vehicle and some from the roadside where Jamison had tossed it while fleeing. The drug was packaged into more than 10,000 individual bags with a street value of $450,000.
