PARIS — An Otisfield man wanted by Michigan authorities as a suspect in sex crimes in 1984 has waived extradition proceedings.
Donald Casemore, 51, of Sherwood Drive, was arrested July 6 by Maine State Police after authorities in Michigan notified them of a warrant issued by the 81st District Court in Tawas City, Mich.
According to a police affidavit supporting the June 16 warrant, Casemore is wanted on two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree. Police say he engaged in a sex act with a girl under the age of 13 twice in 1984. Casemore was 19 at the time.
The charges are the most severe under Michigan’s sex crime laws and conviction could include an indeterminate number of years in prison and mandatory testing for sexually transmitted diseases.
Casemore will be held at the Oxford County Jail until Michigan authorities arrange to have him transported.
It was unclear how long Casemore has lived in Maine. At the Oxford County courthouse Friday morning, three women, one crying silently, were prohibited from having contact with him.
