WEST GARDINER — Scheduled overnight stoppages will begin Monday at the Maine Turnpike toll plaza and continue through Thursday, according to a news release from the Maine Turnpike Authority.
The 25-minute stops will run from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night and will occur in one direction at a time, beginning with northbound lanes.
The MTA explained that these stops are necessary while crews construct the overhead sign structures for the Open Road Tolling lanes which are part of a $6 million project that in began in April 2015.
The project is scheduled for completion this fall, and once finished will run like the E-ZPass fast lane open in New Gloucester. There will be one highway-speed toll lane in both directions.
The Maine Turnpike Authority notes that all work is weather-dependent, but motorists should prepare for delays or seek alternate travel routes during the stoppages.
Erin Courtney of the MTA suggests visiting MaineTurnpike.com for information on Turnpike projects or signing up for travel alerts by email.
