AUGUSTA — A Maine man convicted of fatally stabbing his girlfriend in an alcohol-fueled fight has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.
Justin Pillsbury apologized “from the bottom of my heart” before the sentence was imposed Thursday at the Capital Judicial Center.
Prosecutors say the Augusta man stabbed 24-year-old Jillian Jones a dozen times in a jealous rage during a fight over her communication with another man in November 2013. He also stabbed himself in the neck, but recovered. He was convicted of murder in March.
Pillsbury acknowledged causing the fatal wounds but testified during his trial that he acted in self-defense after she attacked him with a knife.
