HARTFORD — Selectmen on Thursday night discussed at least five issues to be brought to voters at a town meeting in August or September.

They include:

* Extending seasonal maintenance on Darrington Road;

* Accepting a small piece of property donated to the town;

* Accepting a three-year plowing contract to go to bid;

* Extending the length of the town mowing contract; and

* Moving the annual town meeting to August, after school budgets and town audits are completed.

The board weighed in on a road standards ordinance that includes a provision that once a private road has at least five residents it must meet public road standards and the newest resident bears the cost.

Residents wondered if the cost should be split among all the residents of the road and whether the town should have an ordinance.

Barry Langer of the road committee added a provision for enforcement that included minimum and maximum fines for violations.

With too many questions unanswered, selectmen decided to work with the road committee to get answers and continue discussion at their meeting Aug. 4.

In other business, the board:

* Reported new LED lighting at the Town Office and Town Hall is continuing and it’s hoped they will allow the town to stop using street lights in front of those buildings.

* Decided to consult the Budget Committee for approval to use the town contingency fund to cover an overdraft in the calcium account;

* Approved town beach stickers for residents at $5 per sticker;

* Announced that Mia Purcell from Community Concepts Finance Corp. will attend the Aug. 4 selectmen meeting to discuss economic development.
