The Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/29ZQ3gp ) reported that dam owners Christine and Steven Coombs, the Maine Emergency Management Agency and state Department of Environmental Protection have set tentative deadlines for repairing parts of the Branch Pond Mill.

The China dam was built in 1817. The mill was added in 1914 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

State dam inspector Tony Fletcher had found that the dam was a significant potential hazard in 2014. The Coombses began making repairs after the DEP issued a permit by rule in May to lower the dam’s water level.

MEMA Director Bruce Fitzgerald says he’d like repairs to be done by the year’s end.
