PORTLAND (AP) — The Conservation Law Foundation is asking Maine’s highest court to overturn an energy efficiency settlement plan approved by state regulators.
The Boston-based environmental group says the Maine Public Utilities Commission approved a three-year plan that slashed funding for cost-effective energy efficiency programs by 30 percent in violation of the statutory mandate. It’s going to push for a better deal.
The settlement has projected lifetime savings of least $625 million. That’s roughly $250 million less than a plan proposed by the state’s Efficiency Maine Trust.
The Conservation Law Foundation says the settlement is part of a trend of the PUC working in the interests of Republican Gov. Paul LePage instead of the people.
