LEWISTON — YWCA of Central Maine is offering two American Red Cross blended-learning lifeguard training courses.

The first session will run from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20; the second from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21. Cost is $150 for members, $175 for nonmembers. Registration deadline is Friday, July 29.

Participants 15 and older can become certified lifeguards. In the blended learning format, participants will spend 10 to 12 hours working at their own pace on the internet, then come in and demonstrate all skills learned for prevention and rescue of swimmers, including first aid and CPR.

Course prerequisites include completion of a 300-yard swim, treading water and a timed deep water object removal. All components are valid for 2 years.
