AUBURN — Police briefly closed the northbound lanes at 1265 Washington St., near the intersection with Hackett Road, Friday after a crash that sent two people to Lewiston hospitals.

Police said Catherine Petite, 29, of Lewiston had been driving north on Washington Street in a Ford Fusion when she stopped because of a disabled vehicle that was blocking her lane.

Driving behind Petite, Cam Nadeau, 19, of Auburn was unable to stop in time to avoid striking Petite’s car, police said. Nadeau’s Mazda SUV rolled to the side of the road following the impact.

Nadeau and Petite were taken to hospitals to be treated for injuries suffered in the 1:45 p.m. collision. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Washington Street northbound was reopened to traffic a short time later.
