TURNER – A Hebron woman was being treated at a Portland hospital Friday, a day after her car slid beneath a tanker truck on Route 4.
Police said Veronica Button, 22, had been driving north at about 10:20 a.m. Thursday when her Buick crossed the centerline and collided with the back of a Dead River truck that was hauling spring water south on Route 4.
Button’s car struck the truck’s rear axle, bounced off and spun into the roadway, according to Maine State Police, who were investigating the wreck.
Button was taken first to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and then to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Police described her injuries as “significant.” Button was at the hospital in serious condition Friday night.
Michael Mabry, the driver of the Dead River truck, was not hurt in the crash, police said.
A section of Route 4 was closed for about five hours as police investigated the cause of the crash. State police brought in accident reconstructionists and investigators from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division.
