SABATTUS — Sabattus police officers arrested a South Portland man Tuesday after a road rage incident in Lewiston on Saturday involving a machete.
Carlos A. Genoves, 52, of South Portland was charged with aggravated assault, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and threatening display of a weapon.
According to a written statement from Police Chief Gary Baillargeon, the arrest was the result of an incident that occurred Saturday, ending with a search warrant executed Tuesday in South Portland.
According to Baillargeon, Genoves followed a driver to his residence in Sabattus. He confronted the victim with a machete and placed the large blade against the victim’s neck, causing a superficial wound and a small wound to the victim’s hand, Baillargeon said.
Genoves then fled the scene in his vehicle.
The victim declined medical treatment at the scene.
Based on the investigation, Sabattus police officer Spencer Teixeira and Lt. Sheila Wetherbee found Genoves at his residence in South Portland. With the assistance of the South Portland Police Department, officers executed a search warrant at the home.
Genoves was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail, where his bail has been set at $5,000 cash or $15,000 surety.
The Sabattus Police Department is continuing the investigation and more charges may be forthcoming after a review by the Androscoggin County District Attorney’s Office.
