CANTON — Selectmen on Monday approved a bid of $109,480 from O’Connor of Augusta for a 2017 Western Star plow truck. It was the lowest of five bids.
HP Fairfield’s bid for the body and plow gear was also accepted, bringing the total cost of truck and gear to $197,753.
Deputy Clerk Kathy Walker advised the board about three tax-acquired properties:
* One on Golden Ridge Road valued at $11,650 will require a minimum bid of $5,000;
* One on Alden Hill Road valued at $9,100 will require a minimum bid of $5,000.
* One at Village Ridge valued at $12,000 will require the amount the town is owed, plus 10 percent of the bid to cover the cost of close, all paid within 30 days.
It was also announced that “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will be shown at sunset on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Canton Ball Field. The Fire Department will escort “Star Wars” characters to the ball field. Other activities for children will be available. Free popcorn will be given to those who bring nonperishable food items for the Canton Food Pantry.
