WELD — The Weld Historical Society will hold a fundraising auction, Two for the Two Hundredth, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Town Hall.
This is the society’s big fundraiser for the year, President Sean Minear said. It’s one of the events held in conjunction with the town’s 200th birthday, which is being organized by the Weld Bicentennial Committee chaired by Minear.
For years, members of the society have been quietly collecting duplicate items, one for the historical society to keep and the other to auction. Between 50 and 60 items have been collected.
“Ninety-five percent of the items are from Weld,” Minear said.
Camp Kawhanee has donated a two-week camp session for a first-time camper next year. It’s valued at $3,000.
Sugarwood Gallery in Farmington has donated a W.A. Mitchell Royal chair with the Weld Bicentennial logo engraved on the crest, Minear said. Staff at the gallery said the chair is made from cherry and maple with black lacquer and has a value of about $900.
Other items to be auctioned include:
* Buddy Vining rolltop desk
* Janet Dexter Storer sketch of Jimmy Durante
* Charles Henry Sawyer print
* Stanley Keirstead original painting of Mt. Blue
* Two-night stay at Kawhanee Inn
* Matt Frost Christmas ornaments
* Wooden pens handmade by David Hutchinson
* Scott Perry panoramic photograph
* Large selection of artwork
* Antique souvenir china
* Quilts
* Gift certificates
Items can be viewed starting at 5 p.m. No phone bids will be accepted.
“There are some other big-ticket items in the works,” Minear said. “Many of the items to be auctioned are one of a kind.”
