AUBURN — The Police Department is accepting applications for its next Citizen Police Academy, which will begin Sept. 20.
Participants will meet at the police station from 6 to 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday for 10 weeks, according to a statement from Police Chief Phil Crowell.
“The program offers insight into how local police officers perform their duties and how this department serves the community,” Crowell said. He said another goal is to strengthen communication between police and citizens.
Topics to be covered include basic patrol functions, use of force, drunken-driving detection and enforcement, domestic violence, K-9 demonstration, drug enforcement and crime scene investigations.
“Participants will not be trained as police officers, but they will get a fun and informative overview of what we do,” Crowell said.
Acceptance is on a first-come basis, with preference given to Auburn residents.
Applicants with felony convictions or extensive criminal background will not be accepted.
For more information and to apply, visit the police station at 60 Court St., go online to auburnpd.com, or call police planner Liz Allen at 333-6650, extension 2070.
