NAPLES — A Casco woman was flown from a crash scene in Naples to a Lewiston hospital Saturday after the vehicle she was driving struck trees and was enveloped with flames.
Ruth Bliss, 48, was driving on Route 11 at 2 p.m. on Saturday when the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban SUV she was driving crossed the centerline, left the roadway and crashed into several trees, according to a statement released by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene where the SUV had caught on fire. Emergency crews quickly extinguished the flames, then spent an hour cutting Bliss from the wreckage.
She suffered traumatic injuries and was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by LifeFlight of Maine.
The cause and factors surrounding the crash remain under investigation. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Team conducted the investigation.
