Driver Bruce Hall of College Street said he was driving south on Ash Street in his blue Toyota Prius.

“I was going to park at the post office and this vehicle in front of me suddenly appeared, and we collided,” Hall said.

Hall collided with a white Modern Pest Services truck that was headed northwest on Bates Street, and the force of the collision flipped that truck over. The unidentified driver said he had to climb out of the passenger-side window to escape.

Lewiston firefighters were seen sprinkling sand on liquid leaking from the truck that the driver identified as some kind of pesticide.

Mike Peaslee, technical manager at Modern Pest Solutions, said that most of what leaked from the truck was water. The truck was carrying a small amount of ant killer as well, Peaslee said.

“There are actually small quantities of pesticides carried on those vehicles,” Peaslee said. “We buy everything in small quantities and keep as little as possible on those trucks and have special organizers built into the beds of those trucks to contain things.”

Police were on the scene investigating the accident, which blocked traffic on Ash Street.
