NEW GLOUCESTER — The Board of Selectmen on Wednesday reviewed four bids from Maine contractors offering to build a public works complex.

They were: Ganneston Construction Corp. of Bucksport, $4.39 million; Sheridan Corp. of Portland, $4.69 million; Bowman Construction of Newport, $4.68 million; and Great Falls Construction of Gorham, $4.87 million.

Each base bid includes additional alternatives. A final price for the project is unknown.

The preferred site is 25 acres near the New Gloucester Fire Station at 611 Lewiston Road. Nine sites were studied, including the Upper Gloucester Highway Department.

The building committee will begin detailed reviews of each proposal at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at the Community Building behind the Town Hall. The committee will recommend a firm to the Board of Selectmen.

Town Planner Will Johnston said a public forum is expected this fall, followed by a special town meeting for voter approval.
