FARMINGTON — The Arts Institute of Western Maine will sponsor Maine Mountain Chamber Music at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, in Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington.

Performers will include Jasmine Lin, violin, Elizabeth Anderson, cello, and Maine Mountain Chamber Music co-directors Laurie Kennedy, viola, and Yuri Funahashi, piano. They will perform the single movement “Piano Quartet” by Gustav Mahler, the “Piano Quartet” by Joaquin Turina, the “Claude Debussy Cello Sonata” and “Songs of My People” by Michael White.

Michael White’s “Songs of My People” for violin, viola and cello, composed in 2012, is based on six traditional Jewish songs and “celebrates the beautiful music of the Jewish people written over the last 600 years.”

Turina’s “Piano Quartet in A Minor” is infused with the characteristic grace of Spanish folk music, containing numerous Gypsy and Andalusian references. Most listeners are captivated by the fiery rhythms and beautiful lyricism of the piece.

Debussy’s “Sonata for Cello and Piano” is one of his most forward-looking.

Tickets are $15 for adults, and free for those with student IDs or 18 and younger.
