ANSWER: According to the state of Maine’s medical equipment definitions, a mobility scooter is a chair-like, battery-powered mobility device for people with difficulty walking because of illness or disability, with integrated seating system, tiller steering, and three- or four-wheel non-highway construction.
Scooter users often have difficulty propelling manual wheelchairs, but do not require the sophisticated electronic controls and seating systems common in powered wheelchairs. You can find mobility scooters for sale or for rent at:

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine is a nonprofit located at 199 Main St. in Norway. Started in 2014, the Center is a place where family members and the person affected by cancer can receive support. Services include a lending library, informational resources and comfort items such as port protectors, pillows, hats and bonnets. It is open Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is staffed by volunteers. Activities include a women’s cancer support group, wellness activities such as yoga and Reiki, and a variety of craft classes, all free of charge.
Volunteers are needed to provide one or more of the following services: supervise drop in hours, assist with mailings or phone calls, set up and monitor classes, make caring cards, write thank-you notes, lead activities such as cribbage or a craft or assist with the Center’s library. The Center is also looking for a facilitator for a Caregivers Support Group, Men’s Group and for volunteers who would like to serve on the board of directors.
