TURNER — Selectmen voted Monday night to no longer charge residents $2 per bucket for sand and salt mixture stockpiled at the transfer station.

Selectman Kevin Nichols made the motion and Steve Maheu seconded it. Angelo Terreri joined them in approving the motion; Ralph Caldwell and board Chairman Kurt Youland voted against it.

The fee was instituted last year to stop people from taking truckloads at a time.

“I want to move the sand pile so no one can get a truck in there, and not charge for it,” Nichols said.

Maheu agreed. “I don’t like the idea of charging for it.”

Residents will once again be able to take up to two five-gallon buckets at a time.
