PARIS — A local teen was sentenced to 10 days in a juvenile detention facility for a police chase that left a Norway officer seriously injured last year.
, 18, pleaded guilty Tuesday morning in juvenile court in Paris to felony aggravated driving to endanger. In exchange for his plea, a charge of felony aggravated eluding an officer was dismissed.
Emerson was 17 at the time of the accident.
While an adult charged with the same offense could face up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine, a juvenile faces placement in a work-service program or a detention facility.
Police said officer Stephen Cronce was monitoring traffic in December 2015 when he observed a Mercedes speeding on Waterford Road. Cronce followed it, hit a patch of sand, slid off the road and crashed into a clump of trees. He was severely injured and out of work for nearly nine months.
Emerson was also fined $575, and will have his license suspended for 30 days.
