MINOT — Selectmen on Tuesday evening scheduled a workshop on mass gathering and noise ordinances in response to complaints about the Great North Music and Arts Festival last month at Hemond’s Motorcross Park.

The workshop with the Planning Board will focus on ordinances used in other towns. It’s set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Town Office.

The board agreed to hold a meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, for residents to talk with festival organizer John Hicks and the owners of Hemond’s Motorcross Park on what might be done to make any future concert work for everyone.

Park owner Michael Hemond called for such a meeting at the board’s Sept.12 session when residents complained about the loud noise into the wee hours of the morning Sept. 9, 10 and 11.

In other business Tuesday, Town Administrator Arlan Saunders said he spoke with a couple of contractors to get estimates to replace the Town Office roof and none have gotten back to him.

“It’s getting awful late in the season and it is clear roofers are tied up with previous obligations,” Saunders said.

He had hoped that the roof, which was leaking rather badly prior to Highway Supervisor Scott Parker’s emergency patching job, could be replaced this fall.

“I suggest that we do a warrant article for annual town meeting and pray it does not leak again before then,” Saunders said.

Saunders also reported that the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments’ salt bid came in at $56.61 per ton, down from $61.44 last winter.

He received notice from Ben Foster, supervisor of MDOT’s Bridge Division, that the Joe Town Bridge was inspected, is in good condition and OK’d for all legal loads.

Selectmen also:

• Appointed Norma Dulac as deputy tax collector, deputy voter registrar and deputy town clerk; and

• Approved Fire Chief Dean Campbell’s request to spend $1,000 toward the town of Paris’ purchase of a $13,000 machine for fit testing self-contained breathing apparatus masks.
