LEWISTON — Androscoggin Bank’s MainStreet Foundation announced recipients of its impact grants for the third quarter of 2016, which include two in the tri-county area.

The foundation awards grants to organizations actively working to help children thrive. The grants vary based on the need and are awarded in amounts up to $5,000.

Area recipients are:

• Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn, which was awarded $5,000 to support its backpack program at Washburn Elementary School in Auburn this school year. The program is a school-based food distribution program targeting school-aged children identified as food insecure.

• Oxford Hills Community Gardens, doing business as Alan Day Community Garden in Norway, was awarded $2,500 to support a Library & Research Center for the Oxford Hills Community Gardens’ Youth Leadership Program. The program offers at-risk students a chance to learn real-life gardening skills, healthy eating choices, cooking on a budget and valuable communication skills. The center will serve hundreds of youths each year and be open to the entire community.
