SKOWHEGAN — Upset-minded Oxford Hills played perennial powerhouse Skowhegan evenly through the first half, using a tight defense and several stops from Anna Huff to keep the Indians at bay.

But No. 4 Skowhegan proved too much in the second frame, netting four goals — including two from Julia Steves — en route to a 4-0 Class A North quarterfinal win over the Vikings on Wednesday.

“Erin Morton just missed on a chance in the first half,” Oxford Hills coach Cindy Goddard said. “Had we scored there, it might have been different. But the girls played well, they all did. Skowhegan is just a really good team.”

Maliea Kelso opened the scoring for the homestanding Indians (11-3-1) early in the second half. Steves followed with her pair, and Haley Theberge capped the scoring for Skowhegan.

Leah Savage stopped three shots in the cage for the Indians. Huff finished with nine stops for the Vikings (8-7-0) in the loss.
