PORTLAND — Privilege, power and difference will be the focus of a Maine Community Foundation summit from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Holiday Inn By the Bay, 88 Spring St.
The foundation’s inaugural summit will address the roles people it can play to ensure all people in Maine have the same opportunities, regardless of race or ethnicity.
Keynote speaker Dr. Allan G. Johnson will explore how social systems perpetuate privilege based on race and ethnicity, the ways unearned privilege shapes lives, and how to be part of the solution without placing blame or guilt.
Johnson, a sociologist, teacher and author, has worked for more than 20 years as a public speaker and trainer focused on issues of race and gender. He is the author of several books, including “Privilege, Power, and Difference.”
Board Chairman Dighton Spooner and President and CEO Steve Rowe also will outline the foundation’s vision for a prosperous Maine.
Tickets are $25, and available by calling 877-700-6800, ext. 845, or visiting www.mainecf.org or www.eventbrite.com.
