LEWISTON — Police are looking for a man who reportedly shot five rounds at a car on Sabattus Street and took off.

No one was hurt.

A witness at the scene said he saw a pedestrian shoot at a red car as it was driving by. The car took off and the man ran up nearby Howe Street.

In a statement, police described the shooter as a black male wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt. The driver of the vehicle drove to the police station to report the incident. The victim and suspect know each other and have had previous altercations, according to the police statement.

As of 3 p.m., the suspect still was at large.

Lewiston officers redirected traffic downtown in the area of Sabattus and College streets for part of the morning as they investigated.

“There were several shots fired, I guess — I thought somebody was pounding on the door,” said an employee answering the phone at the Blue Goose Bar & Grill at 69 Sabattus St. “The police are all over it here, trying to find some answers.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Tom Murphy at 207-513-3138, ext. 3352.
