PORTLAND (AP) — Hundreds have gathered in Maine’s largest city to demonstrate unity and protest the election of Donald Trump as president.

Participants met at Portland’s Monument Square on Wednesday evening and marched toward Portland City Hall carrying signs that said “not my president” and “keep hate out of Maine.”

WMTW-TV reports that several speakers talked about moving forward peacefully while standing up for personal beliefs.

Organizers say they wanted a place for people to come together after Tuesday’s election in which the Republican Trump defeated Hillary Clinton.

Clinton conceded defeat early Wednesday and congratulated Trump.

Mainers split their electoral votes: Clinton won the statewide vote, collecting three electoral votes, but Trump won in the 2nd Congressional District, collecting one electoral vote.
