MINOT — Replacement of the Town Office roof will begin next week, Town Administrator Arlan Saunders told selectmen Monday night.
Saunders said John St. Hilaire of State Roofing agreed to do the job for $15,750 and the roofing has been ordered.
In late October, temporary patching failed during heavy rains and it was decided repairs could not wait for voter approval.
Selectmen directed Saunders to proceed with work and put an article in the warrant for the March 2017 annual town meeting to cover the expense.
Saunders reported he has almost completed work on parts of the municipal budget he is responsible for, and he expects all other budget figures and warrant article figures to be on his desk by Friday, Dec.2.
He said he would include an article to replace the old salt shed. The shed was condemned about 10 years ago, according to Saunders, and the highway crew repaired it as best it could.
“The foundation has now failed and it has to be done,” Saunders said.
In other business:
* Saunders reported that Reginald Emery and Bernice Fraser have agreed to serve on the town Budget Committee.
* Selectmen approved Fire Chief Dean Campbell’s recommendation to accept the bid of $4,800 from Roberts Overhead Door of Norway to replace the two main doors at the Central Fire Station. It was the lowest of two bids. Campbell said the new doors will match the one installed in the new addition. He also said he will sign an updated mutual aid agreement with Auburn.
* Highway Supervisor Scott Parker said lights have been strung on the town’s Christmas tree and historic snowplow, ready for lighting.
* Campbell issued a formal invitation to the public to attend the lighting of the town Christmas tree Saturday, Nov. 26. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. and the lighting at 6. Refreshments will be served at Central Fire Station.
