LISBON — Superintendent Rick Green has urged the School Committee to consider budgeting $5,000 to update an application for state funds for major improvements at schools and the central office.

The money would pay Scott Simons Architects to update the 2010 application that resulted in funding major renovations at Lisbon High School.

“We spent around $3,800 toward the application last time,” Green told the committee at its Nov. 14 meeting. “Scott Simons said it should be around that amount this time, but to budget $5,000 to be safe and they will not use any more of that.”

Renovations at the high school included a new gym.

“If we are not part of this next building application, (then) all the changes that we made at (the high school) will not be grandfathered. It is in our best interest to have the professionals put together the application and see what happens,” Green said.

If approved by the state, the Major Capital School Construction funds will take care of most of the work outlined in the five-year capital improvement plan.

Work includes adding security cameras at schools and the central office, installing a new boiler at the high school, updating the kitchen at the central office, and replacing carpet at Lisbon Community School with tile.

Although the application is not due until April, Green suspects formal action for the $5,000 will be taken at a committee meeting Dec. 12.

In other business, Green pointed out that the Phase II Guaranteed Performance Contract Plan will require a referendum in June because the total project is over $250,000. The plan includes replacing all univents and pneumatic controls for the gyms at the Central Office, Sugg Middle School and Lisbon High School. A heat recovery ventilator would also be installed at the middle school and the roof exhaust fan and boiler would be replaced at the high school.
