NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine has announced its December activities. All activities are free to those impacted by cancer.

Banding Together to Restore: 11 a.m. to noon Mondays, Dec. 5, 12 and 19. Lori Britting leads this program focused on regaining motion and strength through guided instruction using stretching bands. Each participant will be encouraged to work within their abilities that will safely gain their desired goals. Part of the program is helping participants get back their energy, ability to move easier and to carry out their daily tasks.

Stampin’ Up with Kathy: 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6. She provides materials and instruction to make a variety of cards.

Christmas Crafts: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7. Sherri and others will lead craft activities. Materials will be provided. Attendees should bring lunch.

Community Cancer Cut and Sew: 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Dec. 7, and 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Sew Orchid Design, 316 Main St. Participants cut out material for bonnets and other comfort items needed by the center. Sewing kits are assembled for people to take home to sew, or they can be sewed while attendees are there.

Guided Meditation Gathering: 1 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14. Guided meditation can help promote relaxation and lower stress. Using their imagination along with their five senses, attendees may find themselves in a tranquil state that’s rejuvenating. Susan Kane will lead the group.

Reiki 1: 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20. Reiki is a gentle, hands-on technique intended to relieve stress and discomfort and to complement the medical treatments prescribed by physicians. Charlotte LaBelle of Teresia Reiki will be the instructor. Individual sessions may be scheduled with LaBelle between 2:30 and 5 p.m. by calling 207-890-7063.

Crafting with Barbara: 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Sew Orchid Design, 316 Main St. Barbara Daigle will teach a series of non-sewing or beginner sewing crafts for participants to complete.

Knitting and Crocheting: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays.

Coloring for Adults: 1 to 2 p.m. Thursdays. Coloring books and various markers are available.

Yoga for Wellness: 8 to 9 a.m. Fridays. Either Kat Larsen or Sherri will teach the class. It will include breathing, movement and relaxing meditation while seated or standing.

Cards and Games: 1 to 2 p.m. Fridays. Various games are available or participants may bring one of their own to get a game started.

Chair Yoga: 2 to 3 p.m. Fridays. Sherri leads the class in chair yoga. No mats are necessary, and chairs are provided.

Walk and Talk with David: Available by calling 207-739-7027. He will share his favorite walking routes around Norway or Paris with those who are interested.

The center is located at 199 Main St. in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic building. Drop-in hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays. 

Volunteers are available to provide comfort items such as port protectors, wigs, hats, pillows or to find resources. Brochures and the lending library are available for use

In the case of inclement weather, activities sponsored by the center are canceled when School Administrative District 17 is canceled.
