LEWISTON — David Cheever, Maine state archivist, will be the presenter at the Food for Thought luncheon at noon Friday, Dec. 9.
The presentation, “How 1-01-0 and 2020 Lead to Maine 2.0,” will take place in Function Room 170 of the Senior College at the University of Southern Maine Lewiston-Auburn College.
Cheever will share the challenges facing records managers and modern archivists in the digital age, and discuss how his department is preparing for Maine’s 2020 bicentennial of statehood.
As archivist, Cheever has helped in the transition from a paper-dominant environment to the born-digital technology that brings unique demands to document preservation and the need to have those documents available to the public.
Cheever is a graduate of Bangor High School and Colby College. He is a former reporter, columnist, producer and editor, and an award-winning broadcaster in radio and television. He lives in Augusta.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $7 in advance or $8 at the door, and includes lunch. Advance reservations must be received by noon Wednesday, Dec. 7, by calling 207-753-6510. Calls received after this will be the same price as admission at the door.
