FARMINGTON — Police say a Farmington man faces an aggravated assault charge after an incident Saturday evening in which a woman told police he tried to strangle her.

Mark McCormick, 33, was arrested on the felony charge and taken to Franklin County Detention Center after police responded to a Mosher Hill residence for a domestic disturbance at about 8:30 p.m.

The victim told police McCormick threatened to use a firearm and tried to strangle her.

She had some visible injuries, according to the police report, and was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital by a NorthStar ambulance to have the injuries checked, said Bonnie Pomeroy, police secretary.

Bail for McCormick was set by the court Monday at $7,500 cash with a Maine Pretrial Services contract, according to a detention center officer.

Maine Pretrial Services is a nonprofit agency providing pretrial bail supervision of defendants who are charged with crimes or probation violations and might otherwise have to wait in jail until trial, according to its website. Judges can impose conditions such as substance abuse or mental health counseling.
