MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Community Players will hold auditions for “When Radio Was King,” an original 1940s radio variety show.

Auditions will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday, Dec. 11 and 12, at Cumston Hall.

Linda Duarte of Lewiston is director, and Cindy Dunham of Winthrop is producer.

Though several skits have already been chosen for this production, the director has opened up a contest to local playwrights for original work. Those who have dreamed of writing their own play and seeing it performed live may submit skits to [email protected] by Dec. 21. Skits should be between 10 to 15 minutes in length. The winner of the contest will receive two tickets to the show.

Those planning on auditioning should prepare 16 bars of a song to be performed with accompaniment. Attending auditions is highly encouraged. Those unable to attend should contact Duarte to make arrangements.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16, 17 and 18, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19.

Tickets are $14 for general admission and $12 for students and seniors.
