LISBON — St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church will offer “Angels in the Bible” from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 496 Lisbon St.

The Rev. Frederick H. Giese will lead this free seminar.

“These aren’t your cutesy angels of popular culture. If you have ever wondered what the Bible really tells us about angels, then you won’t want to miss this opportunity,” said Giese.

Lunch is provided.

Giese is a pastoral assistant at St. Matthew’s, where he preaches monthly, and leads the Thursday night Bible study Men of Jesus Obviously, abbreviated MOJO. He serves on the board of directors for Lisbon Area Christian Outreach.

He served as a Navy hospital corpsman and with units of the U.S. Marine Corps. He received two Purple Heart medals for wounds received in combat in 1968. After retiring from the Navy in 1989, Giese became an occupational hearing conservationist and manager of the Audiology Department at the Brunswick Naval Air Base. During 18 years in this position, he received many awards and was twice named the Outstanding Occupation Hearing Conservationist in the Navy.

In 2010 he received his Master of Theology degree from the College of the Open Bible Institute and Theological Seminary of Greenville, South Carolina, and in 2011 was ordained a minister of the Gospel by his seminary. In 2012, he received his Doctor of Ministry Degree from the same university.
