CHESTERVILLE — The Appeals Board will meet Thursday, Dec. 15, to consider a request to change a road name that was denied by the Planning Board in October.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the Town Office.
Scott and Megan Heikkinen, who own property on both sides of the road, had requested the name be changed from Turner Intervale Road to Heikkinen Lane. The road is not listed on their deed.
At a public hearing in September, Fire Chief John Archer said his department reviewed road names as part of the state’s Enhanced 911 emergency communications system. The road name wasn’t listed on paper because it didn’t change, he said.
Concerns raised about the name change included inaccuracies with GPS information, first responders’ familiarity with the road’s current name, and the potential for similar requests whenever properties change hands.
In October, Code Enforcement Officer Brenda Medcoff said the landowners were not notified when E911 went into effect as they should have been.
The Planning Board voted 4-0 to deny the request, with Daniel Simonds abstaining. Acting Chairman Gregory Soule did not vote, and Linton Robinson recused himself because he’s related to the Malcolm Turner family, who own property on the road that is named after them.
