LEWISTON — Grace Note Community Music School’s 2017 season of the Youth Orchestra of Lewiston-Auburn begins Jan. 10.
YOLA is a string orchestra providing orchestral experience for young musicians, creating excitement and passion in music through a committed approach to performing.
YOLA is open to violin, viola, cello and bass players. Players should be comfortable playing in C, G, D and A major, and be able to read music. Previous ensemble experience is not required. Opportunities may be also created for more advanced players who are shifting and using vibrato.
Rehearsals will be weekly from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning Jan. 10, at Free Grace Presbyterian Church, 160 Canal St.
The cost to participate is $100 per semester. The semester runs from January through April.
YOLA is directed by Linda Vaillancourt, who earned her undergraduate music degree from the University of Southern Maine and her master’s in viola performance from the University of Maine. For over a decade, she has taught students from pre-kindergarten to high school seniors. She currently teaches band and orchestra at North Yarmouth Academy. She has served as orchestra vice president and manager of the Maine All-State Orchestra. She frequently performs as violist in the Bangor Symphony, Maine Chamber Ensemble, and Maine Music Society.
