SABATTUS — A Lewiston man was killed Monday in a head-on collision at 667 Sabattus Road, police said.

Zachary Gibbens, 46, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet box truck, died at the scene, Police Chief Gary Baillargeon said.

Police were dispatched to the scene shortly before 3 p.m. Monday, he said.

The operator and passenger of the 2002 Chrysler van involved in the crash were extricated by Sabattus Fire Department using metal cutting tools and taken by ambulance with undisclosed injuries to area hospitals.

The driver of the van was Rebecca Stewart, 28, of Sabattus; her passenger, a small child. 

Local police are investigating the cause and reconstructing the scene with the help of area law enforcement agencies.

The road was closed to through traffic.
