FARMINGTON — Jemma Jade Gauthier is Franklin County’s first baby of 2017, arriving at 4:53 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
She weighed 5 pounds, 13 ounces. Dr. Jennifer Zeliger of Franklin Health Women’s Care attended Jemma’s birth.
Jemma is the first child of Lydia and Christopher Gauthier of New Sharon, and the first granddaughter for maternal grandmother, Laura Harris, also of New Sharon. Christopher’s parents live in southern New Hampshire.
Gauthier’s due date was Jan. 10. She had labor induced Tuesday morning and Jemma was born eight hours later.
“It didn’t feel fast, but it was,” Lydia said.
She expects to be discharged sometime Thursday evening.
“She’ll do fine. We had eight, nine months to prepare,” Christopher said.
Christopher works at Olympia Sports in Farmington. Lydia is a crop care specialist at Backyard Farms in Madison, where she tends hundreds of tomato plants.
As the first baby born at Franklin Memorial Hospital in 2017, Jemma’s family received gifts, including a baby outfit from Calico Patch; a $25 gift card from Hannaford; infant caps from Lucy Vachon, Beryl Flagg and Wilton Day Extension Homemakers; $25 from Bangor Savings Bank, and assorted baby items from the hospital’s gift shop in a basket.
