JAY — The Recreation Committee is planning for the 5th Annual Spruce Mountain Sled-In and Family Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11.

Raffle donations, food vendors and volunteers are needed for the winter carnival.

Snowmobilers may ride in on the Whistlestop Trail to the French Falls Recreation Area off French Falls Lane, across from Spruce Mountain High School. Parking will be available for those arriving by cars and trucks.

There will be a bonfire, sledding on a large snow “mountain,” snowmobile-powered sleigh rides and ice skating. Snowshoe races and snowman/snow sculpture contests will be held with prizes awarded.

Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere said the Fire Department, Public Works, and Recreation Committee are involved. Local snowmobile clubs Andy Valley Riders, Jug Hill Riders and Livermore Trailblazers will help. Members of Androscoggin Land Trust will also assist.

“More volunteers are needed to help with set-up, activities, or cleanup,” LaFreniere said.

Attendees should plan to bring sliding sleds, snowshoes and ice skates. Some snowshoes will be provided by Spruce Mountain High School, while skates will be borrowed from the Wilton Recreation Department, she said.

“There shouldn’t be a problem with snow this year. The Public Works crew is already working on the snow mountain,” LaFreniere said.

A few local nonprofits have signed up to sell hot dogs, hamburgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, and S’more packets. There is room for nonprofits wishing to sell other items, LaFreniere said.

Nonprofits must preregister by Feb. 3. Those interested should contact LaFreniere at 207-897-6785, email [email protected], or visit the Jay Town Office for an application.

LaFreniere said she is collecting donations for raffles. Any individual or business wishing to donate items should contact her. 50/50 tickets will be sold.
