DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Saturday, Dec. 31, I was waiting for my luggage at the Portland Jetport after a flight from Baltimore. A woman beside me suddenly noticed that she was missing an earring, which appeared to mean a lot to her. Lo and behold, while emptying my carry-on bag, there it was at the bottom. I have no idea where she was from but would certainly love to return it. — Dot, Lewiston.

ANSWER: The best way to reunite this woman with her earring would be to bring it to the Portland Jetport lost and found. They are located in the operations center on the second floor in baggage claim, right near the elevator. You will see a frosted glass door that says “Operations Center.” There you can turn in the earring and let them know all of the details and they will do their best to get it back to its owner. To speak to someone in the lost and found department at the Portland Jetport, you can call 207-756-8320.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Following the holiday vacation, Montello Elementary School’s students were the lucky recipients of hand-knit hats and mittens. This timely and thoughtful donation came from former Lewiston resident, Ms. Constance St. Pierre, who now lives in Florida.

I am told that Ms. St. Pierre spent much of her working life supporting children as a counselor and later assisted with starting the Program for Grieving Children in Lewiston.

Since retiring, Ms. St. Pierre has spent many hours knitting warm (and colorful) hats and mittens. This is her third year doing this and, with the support of her siblings, she sent 300 of them to be given to the Lewiston elementary school children who are in need.

Based on the smiles of many of our students, Ms. St. Pierre’s thoughtfulness and hard work are beyond appreciated. Her warm mittens and warm hats have warmed hearts! — Jim Cliffe, Principal, Montello Elementary School.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Someone gave us a large bag of cone shaped spools of various textures and colors of yarns. We think they are intended for someone who has a loom and weaves. We have not been able to use them and so offer them free to a person who will make good use of them. — Klara Tammany, Center for Wisdom’s Women.

ANSWER: If anyone could use these spools of yarn, please contact the center by calling 207-513-3922.
