PERU — Regional School Unit 10 Superintendent Deborah Alden told directors Monday night a committee is needed to reconfigure the board because five of the 12 towns have voted to leave the district.
“Each of the seven towns will need to select a municipal officer, a citizen-at-large and a school board member for the committee,” she said. “The committee’s job will be to propose to the (state) education commissioner what the makeup of the new RSU 10 board will be.”
The work must be completed by July 1, Alden said.
Canton, Carthage, Dixfield and Peru withdrew from RSU 10 in November to form a school district. Byron withdrew at the same time. The withdrawals are effective July 1.
The remaining towns are Rumford, Mexico, Roxbury, Buckfield, Sumner, Hartford and Hanover.
In other business, Alden said the district is looking to form a committee to complete construction applications related to five school buildings.
The next school board meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23 at Meroby Elementary School in Mexico.
